Vernon Paul Yung was born on January 4, 1958 in Superior, Nebraska to Russell and Hilda (Keller) Yung and passed away at his residence on August 12, 2020, at the age of 62.
Vernon lived on the family farm in rural Guide Rock until 6 years old. He then moved to Martin Luther Home Society in Beatrice where he received special school and training for life skills. At 18, Vernon moved to Hastings and resided there the rest of his life. Through great friends and caretakers of Mid-Nebraska Individual Services, Vernon enjoyed various jobs and community events over the last 44 years. Vernon was also a loyal member at St. Paul’s Lutheran Church.
Vernon participated in multiple sports through Special Olympics Nebraska; some of which were swimming, bowling and track. Vernon was a devoted Huskers and Hastings Broncos fan. He enjoyed watching sports, television, and would occasionally feel like dancing. He took great pride in being an Usher at Sunday morning church services at St. Paul’s Lutheran Church. Vernon had a contagious, joyful spirit and always enjoyed a good meal with family and friends.
Vernon is survived by his sister, Wilda Leisy (Darrel) of Atkinson, and brothers, Gordon Yung (Teressa) of Holdrege and Byron Yung(Brenda) of Lincoln, and many nieces, nephews, cousins and one aunt. He is dearly missed by his loved ones, who celebrate that he is at peace with his Creator.
Services were held 11 a.m. Saturday, August 15, 2020 at St. Paul's Lutheran Church in Hastings with Rev. Joel Remmers officiating. Interment was at the Guide Rock Cemetery.
In lieu of flowers, a memorial will be established for the Special Olympics of Nebraska and First St. Paul’s Lutheran Church.
