Wyvern Lee Cline, the son of Wilbur and Lela (Kugler) Cline, was born in the Riverton, Nebraska area May 16, 1932. He departed this life at his home south of Franklin, Nebraska June 12, 2023, at the at of 91 years.
A lifelong resident of the area, Wyvern received his formal education attending rural school and then graduated from the Riverton High School with the class of 1951. He was united in marriage with Mary F. Watkins on December 31, 1951, at Franklin, Nebraska. This union was blessed with a son, Randy, and daughter, Marla. They lived in a number of communities in Nebraska, Kansas, Oklahoma, Texas and Colorado while Wyvern was employed as a heavy equipment operator. They then returned to the Franklin community to make their home and raise their family.
He was a loving husband, father, grandfather and friend. Wyvern was affectionately referred to by many names including the Supreme Commander, Dirt Badger, the Bald Bomber and most importantly, he was Grandpa to everyone. In high school, he excelled in athletics and participated with his teams at the state tournament. As his children were growing up he volunteered as a 4-H leader and cherished following their many projects and events with horses.
In his leisure time, Wyvern enjoyed a number of activities and interests including hunting, fishing, working with his livestock, deer season, coyote hunting with his friends and most of all the time spent with his family. He will be fondly remembered for his orneriness, sense of humor and wit. It is said that “All a man leaves is his legacy” and the memories we have of him truly is a legacy that all will treasure in the years to follow.
Preceding him in death were his wife, Mary, on January 1, 2020; his parents; and four brothers Dwane, Delwyn, Jack and Gail Cline.
Surviving are his children, Randy Cline and wife Dalene of Franklin, Nebraska; daughter, Marla Johnson of Franklin; grandchildren and great grandchildren, Cory and Melissa Cline and children Kingston and Beckett; Raesha Cline and fiance, Ethan Delaet and son, Maverick; Wade and Sheila Johnson and children Shelby, Ford and Lincoln; Katie Johnson and son, Ayden; sisters, Colleene Minnick, Carolyn Cline, Lois and Don Shannon, and Sharol Lawhead; nieces, nephews, other relatives and his many friends.
Funeral services were Friday, 10:30 am, June 16, 2023, at the Evangelical Free Church in Franklin, Nebraska with Pastor Bill E. Stearns officiating. Interment was at the Greenwood Cemetery in Franklin.
Visitation will be Wednesday and Thursday, 9:00 am - 7:00 pm at the Williams Funeral Home in Red Cloud, and Friday, 8:00 am to service time at the church.
